The Australian bushfires have been totally catastrophic for the animals that have tragically lost their homes and their lives. News of the terrible situation has spread across the globe with many people giving their support, donations, and helping to raise awareness.
Including Kylie Jenner who posted on Instagram that the news of these fires simply “breaks my (her) heart.” However, she kind of put her own foot in her mouth shortly after by showing off her mink fur slippers.
Her post would have been fine but shortly after she put up a picture of her in her new Louis Vuitton mink fur slippers which made her fans think she was being a little hypocritical. The slippers cost around $1,417 and are made from ‘mink fur’ with a ‘mink fur insock’.
The description reads: “The Homey Flat Mules are crafted from luxurious mink fur printed with an oversized LV Initials signature. Their open-toe, slip-on style is made even softer by its insock in sheared mink fur. Supple and lightweight, they are ideal for travel and are accompanied by a matching velvet pouch.”
One of her fans took to Twitter to call her out, along with a screenshot of Kylie showing off her new fluffy slippers.
Someone else referred to what she did as the “biggest hypocrisy of 2020…” Another Twitter user posted “And I wonder if she has donated anything?”
At this point, specialists in Australia have said that the number of animals that lost their lives to this fire is over one billion. Chris Dickman, an ecologist at the University of Sydney, said his original figures were a bit conservative – and only included those in the state of New South Wales (NSW).
“The original figure – the 480m – was based on mammals, birds and reptiles for which we do have densities, and that figure now is a little bit out of date. It’s over 800m given the extent of the fires now – in New South Wales alone. If 800m sounds a lot, it’s not all the animals in the firing line.”
