America’s longtime singing competition, American Idol, is officially coming back for another season, and the crew has some exciting updates. Even with a global pandemic, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are still searching for the best vocalists in the country.

American Idol has always been able to bring people together, entertain and inspire,” explained President of ABC entertainment, Karey Burke. “I am so proud of how this show continued to deliver joy and laughter into people’s homes during a time when we needed it the most.”

This iconic trio of judges and host Ryan Seacrest are coming together to put on the 19th overall season, but fourth since switching things up in recent years. Producers have already started searching for potential talent virtually, giving contestants real-time feedback as the competition heats up. This year, they’re encouraging as many people as possible to audition, since it can be done right from your home.

“Katy, Lionel, and Luke are fun, astute, and really know how to spot talent,” said executive producer Trish Kinane. “Their chemistry is undeniable, and we are delighted that they, along with host Ryan Seacrest, are returning to find the next superstar and take American Idol to new heights next season.”

Last season was held virtually, for the first time ever, and producers were pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. While it may not give contestants the same rush as performing live, the entire world’s had to make sacrifices and adapt to social-distancing, so the judges are happy to do whatever they can to keep bringing joy to fans and find some incredible talent.
