In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zooey Deschanel revealed some fun facts about the Christmas hit Elf. The starlet, who played Jovie in the film, shared the story behind the movie's iconic bathroom scene.

In 2003, Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell's beloved Christmas comedy filled viewers with holiday cheer and laughs. Arguably one of the most memorable scenes of the film involved the two stars singing Baby, It's Cold Outside while Zooey showers and, unbeknownst to her, Ferrell walks in to sing along.

"It's funny because obviously everyone knows it's not appropriate to walk in the girls' bathroom when someone's showering, but he's so believable as this guileless elf," Deschanel said. The actress then shared a surprising fact about the movie's script.

The iconic scene wasn't in the film's original script. Zooey explained it was written based on her singing abilities. "I remember [director] Jon Favreau telling me that they were catering it to whoever played the part," Deschanel told Entertainment Weekly.

"One actress they were looking at was good at skateboarding," she continued. "But I had a cabaret act at the time, and I was performing a lot. They knew that I was a singer, so they put that in to be my special thing that he could discover I was good at."

Zooey revealed she was taken aback by her co-star's musical talents. "He [Will Ferrell] said he wasn't a singer, so I wasn't expecting much. But his dad [Roy Lee Ferrell Jr.] is a great musician. I should've known he'd be secretly good!" We just might start a petition asking the Hollywood figures to reunite for a Christmas duet! But until then, Netflix has us covered with these new Christmas movies and TV Shows.
