What happens when a group of Connecticut teens finds themselves mysteriously stranded without their parents? Well, I guess we’ll never know now. That’s right, The Society fans, you may want to go grab the Kleenex, because we’re officially saying goodbye to our favorite Netflix binge.
So, what do you need to know?
On Friday, August 21st, Netflix gave us a much-needed update on when we’d be catching the sleuthing teens on our screens again – only it was nothing any of us expected to hear.
“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with a second season of The Society,” the streaming service revealed in a shocking statement. In case you somehow forgot, the hit series was already picked up for a second season last July. What went wrong?
“Due to circumstances created by COVID,” the show simply couldn’t go on. From budget increases – thanks to health and safety measurements – to a large ensemble cast – making filming difficult during a global pandemic – production was simply impossible, as they put it.
But, hey, if it makes you feel any better, we’re not the only ones devastated by the disappointing news. “I just got the news this morning, and I’m heartbroken, so heartbroken,” Kathryn Newton, who you know as ‘Allie,’ revealed.
While it’s going to be a while before we forget about Connecticut’s finest, we “can’t wait to see what [the cast] does next,” as Newton herself put it. Something tells us they’re just getting started…
